DALLAS

the hotel needed a waitress and i guess i needed a job
not to mention a bed a two channel tv
to lull me and ed and the babies to sleep

ed he is kind of a strange one but he was willing and he had a car
not to mention the money to get us out of dallas
sure he looks kind of funny but the babies could care less

the money ran out like it’s supposed to right about the time we got here
and the car it got towed sometime last week
so i guess this is home for the babies and me

ed he can do what he wants to he’ll probably get bored pretty soon
cause i couldn’t feel colder as he sweats over me
i just wait till it’s over and they all fall asleep

it’s nothing like it was with jamie it’ll never be like that again
when i finally called sue she said she saw him that night
outside the horseshoe dying to fight

he cursed her and begged her to tell him where in the hell we had gone
i can see it just right just like i was there
the yellow street light shining off his gold hair

and sue would have taken a step back put some pavement between him and her
he would have turned then smashed a window or three
as if he were murdering the babies and me

there’s a girl who comes here to drink coffee smoke and write in a little black book
and she stares like she knows me and i think i hate her
and i think i’m lonely and the babies can’t care

and sometimes at the end of a night shift find myself staring at the pay phone
and i know just how fast my fingers could find
nine numbers to dallas and him on the line
